Almost none of the AI news you read this week (or any other) will change anything you do.

Almost none of the AI news you read this week (or any other) will change anything you do.

My own news aggregation system counted 49 releases last week that could reasonably be called major, alongside hundreds of smaller announcements, API changes, research preprints, product launches and regulatory filings.

Keeping abreast of everything would cost about an hour on the curated newsletters, three more on the 49 core pieces, and several days on the material underneath them. That is a working week spent on inputs, before a single decision has been made and the next week is already upon you.

How many of those 49 would have changed what your business does this quarter? Ask yourself: Does this change my costs, my legal obligations, or something I am currently unable to do? If it fails all three, it is context rather than news.

In my experience, the answer is mostly none, and the rest can be ignored with relative impunity.
